Why are cargo strap back caps so popular today? What are Cargo strap backs? Find out all you need to know about cargo caps here today! These caps are a hybrid of the traditional baseball caps used in America for sporting events like football, baseball, basketball and American football and the later invented snapbacks which were heavily associated with the hip hop and streetwear community in the late 20th century.
The cargos have a hard curved peak, the curve isn't as rounded as a baseball cap or as straight as an original strap back but is curved enough to give a good base shape to your head. This is potentially one of the reasons these caps have become so popular amongst the streetwear community. The peak on a majority of these caps have a distressed edge usually 3 tears one in the centre and 1 on either side of the peak. These are there to make them look vintage without actually being worn out and still holding their shape. They symbolise the baseball caps worn in the farming states which have probably been worn for a decade but still look cool. We have seen this look rise in the denim world with a lot of distressed wear appearing in all retailers like Zara, H&M, TopShop and many more. It is very retro and vintage, these plain wholesale caps became popular when Dsquared introduced their caps to the market.
For re-branding purposes these are particularly hard to get made abroad without the extremely high minimum order quantities, luckily branded plain clothes have made this easier by adding the plain cargo strap backs in 10 different colours to their essentials collection release.
Other than the peak of the cap, the main crown/frame of the cap is very different from normal caps which are made up of panels the normal caps are made from 6 panels whereas these cargos just like the Dsquared ones are made of 5 panels. By making the front of the cap 1 panel rather than 2 this allows you to play around with embroidery and adding different logos which make the caps look different to other brands using the same cap, by removing the panel adding your logo in different areas of the cap looks much more appealing as it won't stand out as much if it wasn't in the centre of the cap where the stitching would originally be on a 6 panel cap. The crown is also dense making it much harder preventing it from losing shape like caps have done in the past.
This cap has been made to last which is a great selling point for start up brands when showing potential customers your product.
There are 2 kinds of caps as a customer you need to look out for and these are fit to size caps or 1 size fits all. The great thing about 1 size fits all as a brand or business means you don't need to worry about what sizes to order, if you have too much or not enough of one size. The adjustable strap on the cargos is cotton which is held down by a metal buckle, the buckle is used to adjust the size of the cap hence why its called 1 size fits all you can make it tighter or looser. There is also a slight hole where you can hide the excess strap if you wanted to.
The strap backs are slightly different these are plastic straps which click in to each other the left strap has 7 holes and the right strap has 7 clips these clips can be placed where ever allowing 13 different sizes from small to large.
